On September 22, 2018, the LSVD organized the 2nd Rainbow Parliament “For more acceptance of LGBTI*” at the FORUM Volkshochschule in Cologne. It is a nationwide forum that provides space for an intensive exchange on the topic of rainbow literacy. This time it was also special because, for the first time, LSVD relabeled public restrooms that were segregated by gender into all-gender restrooms with CO-WC signs. The goal of this action was to create awareness of our visual culture and diversity.
LSVD about the Rainbow Parliament
“How can “Rainbow Competence” be improved elderly care services, education, in religious communities, the media, the workplace and international human rights work? We will debate this question together in expert-led forums and panel discussions at the second nationwide Rainbow Parliament. For the discussion on religion and media, we will build on and develop the ideas from the first Rainbow Parliament in Berlin.”
How did visitors to the Rainbow Parliament perceive the CO-WC signs?
Unfortunately, I could not be there in person. But I was told that the signs were well perceived. And the LSVD observed that visitors to the Rainbow Parliament almost took the signs as a matter of course. Is that good? Of course, there is nothing at all wrong with openness and serenity. Many thanks to René Mertens and the LSVD!
